People who are living with Adenomyosis usually have what we call “Adeno Belly”. You will look like you’re pregnant but you are not.
I always have a big belly since I was young although my body is skinny. I thought that is a genetic factor because my mom also has the same belly. My mom said that some people are naturally have “weteng kendil” or “pot belly”, it means these people will never have a flat belly, just like they have a small pot in their belly 😳 I grew up believing that it’s normal, and I’m one of those people, until I joined the Adenomyosis support group.
Most of the ladies say that they look pregnant because their bellies are bigger than normal people’s belly. I noticed that the more severe the condition is the bigger the Adeno belly they have. It’s sad isn’t?
I’m trying to understand the logic behind this Adeno belly. One of the symptoms of Adenomyosis is a boggy uterus, it means the uterus size of people with Adeno is much bigger than the normal uterus size. The normal uterus size for a person before attaining puberty is 3.5cm x 1cm (length and anteroposterior diameter), after puberty is 7.6cm x 4.5cm x 3cm (length, width, thickness). The volume keeps changing depending on the menstrual cycle from 75cc to 200cc. My uterus size as per October 2016 is 7.8cm x 6.8cmx 7.8cm, it was 7cm x 6.1cm x 6.9cm on April 2016. Yes, it’s getting bigger! And I’m not happy about it 😩
So why the uterus becomes enlarged? The endometrium tissues implants in to the uterine wall causes inflammation. Yes, our uterus are in an inflammatory state all the time, that’s why it’s bigger.
Every time we get our menstruation, our uterus is Inflamed, that’s normal. And Every time we eat inflammatory food, we make this inflammation getting worse. And for people with Adeno, you can see the result in couple hours.
On Wednesday night, I ate sushi for dinner. The only non-vegetarian thing I ate was salmon. FYI, salmon is high in Omega-3 which means it’s anti-inflammatory. But why the next day my belly turned into this?
I felt very bloated. I also felt tightness on my lower abdomen. I didn’t eat anything inflammatory that night, as far as I know. So why this was happening?
I tried so hard to track what I ate and drank that day. What did I do wrong? Then I see the sushi picture again. Did you see the yellow thingy on top of the avocados and grilled salmons? Yes, that was mayonnaise!
So what’s wrong with mayonnaise? Commercial mayonnaise is made from soybean oil, corn oil, or other vegetable oil that contains omega-6. Too much omega-6 in our body can cause inflammation. It also contains sugar, which means more trigger for inflammation! Don’t forget about the artificial ingredients such as preservatives, additives, and monosodium glutamate (MSG)! 😱😱😱Don’t worry, you still can eat mayonnaise if you wanted. You just need to make homemade mayonnaise for healthier options 😉
Back to my Adeno belly. So, mayonnaise is the only inflammatory food that I ate that night. And as you can see, the effect is real! Adenomyosis is a real deal!
The more you listened to your body, the more you understand about it. We, people with Adenomyosis have uterus that in inflammatory state every single day. We need to help ourselves to lower our uterus’ suffering. I’m not sure how to get rid off our Adeno belly as long as we still have Adenomyosis, but at least I will try not to make it getting worse… So, let’s do it together! 😊🙌🏼💪🏻
I forgot that the sushi sauce was made of soy sauce. Helloooo…. soy!!! Our biggest enemy!!! 😅😅😅
